Zambrero, a Mexican-food franchise based in Australia, teamed with Stop Hunger Now for World Food Day on October 16 to package 319,000 meals at seven events throughout Australia. The meals will be shipped to International Care Ministries in the Philippines, a Stop Hunger Now partner, and distributed to Foodbank in Australia.
In September, Andrew Sullivan, Director of International Affiliate Development for Stop Hunger Now, attended Zambrero’s annual staff conference to train company employees to serve as Certified Hunger Event Facilitators, or CHEFs, for Stop Hunger Now. On World Food Day, those CHEFs ran Zambrero’s meal-packaging events in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Townsville and Wagga Wagga.Â
Of the meals packaged, 285,120 meals will be shipped to the Philippines to support International Care Ministries’ community-based initiatives in “ultrapoor” neighborhoods. The remaining will support Foodbank’s efforts to reach the two million Australians who suffer from hunger on a daily basis.Â
In addition to the World Food Day festivities, Zambrero continues to partner with Stop Hunger Now through its Plate4Plate program. Each burrito or bowl purchase at a Zambrero location funds the cost of the ingredients for a Stop Hunger Now meal for someone in need.
