“Baking the World a Better Place,” a campaign the Stop Hunger Now and Red Star Yeast launched in October 2014 to raise awareness of chronic hunger issues and provide meals around the world, got a boost at the fourth biennial National Festival of Breads that was held in June in Manhattan, Kansas.
As part of the awareness-raising campaign, Red Star Yeast set a one-year goal of raising $50,000 for Stop Hunger Now. Red Star Yeast also has featured Stop Hunger Now on eight million yeast packets in stores throughout the U.S., and has hosted three Stop Hunger Now meal packaging events for its employees in Milwaukee, Wis.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and at a national sales meeting in Florida.
Nearly 1,000 people who attended brought nonperishable food items as admission to the National Festival of Breads, which was co-sponsored by Red Star Yeast.
At the Festival, Chessney Barrick Pullen, our Director of Communications and Cause Marketing, presented the “Baking the World a Better Place” campaign with the Red Star Yeast Team.
Stop Hunger Now also received $1,750, half the proceeds at the Festival’s awards banquet from a benefit auction of breads baked by finalists in the only amateur bread-baking competition in the U.S.
